Have you woken up and immediately felt a bit like the room was spinning around you? Or maybe it was more of a shaky, clumsy feeling that you don’t usually get? And when you sat up and got out of bed, the feeling only got worse.

If so, you’re probably feeling pretty panicked right now. You can’t move without feeling like you’re going to fall over, or like you’re listing to the side when you’re sitting up straight.

But you’ve still got a full day of work ahead, and the kids need you, and you’re really not sure what you’re supposed to do right now. We’re here to help. When you’ve got sudden balance issues, here’s what you can do.

Work Out What Triggers That Unbalanced Feeling

Finding out as much as you can about the dizziness or coordination issues you’re experiencing is the first key step. Knowing as much as you can about the sense of vertigo you’ve got will be very useful when you see the doctor.

Think about what you do that sets the problem off. Is it changing position, such as from lying down to sitting, or from sitting to standing? Or is it more to do with head movements, including nodding and shaking?

Book an Ear Wax Appointment

Balance and coordination happens within the inner ear. As such, when you’re dealing with these vertigo episodes and feel like you’re all over the place, there’s likely an issue going on deeper within the ear canal.

If you’ve also had some hearing concerns lately, such as feeling like your ear is blocked up or you’ve had an ear infection, the dizziness is even more likely to be related.

See if you can get yourself in to see an ear specialist. Not only can they take a look at your ears as a whole, but they’re also likely to offer ear wax removal appointments. Ear wax build ups are commonly the culprit for imbalances, as the ear wax can disturb the crystals in the inner ear that help you to stay upright.

See Your Doctor

No matter what, when you’ve got a sudden balance issue and it’s enough to make you feel anxious, it’s best to see a doctor.

A medical professional can let you know if this is something a bit more serious, or something that requires treatment they can give you, or if it’s something to just keep an eye on for the time being.

Really, no matter what else you had to do today, clear some time. You need to call your doctor ASAP and make an appointment. Get your dizziness seen to for some proper peace of mind over what you’re dealing with.

Sudden balance issues can be very scary. They can come on when you wake up, at the end of the day, or when you’re in the middle of a shift and suddenly feel like you’re going to fall down. But don’t panic; try the steps above instead.
