When You Keep Trying to Push Through But Your Body Says Not Today

As you get older or spend more time with your body in general, you often learn a lot about it. From the way it moves to how you feel in your body daily.

Sometimes, it’s good to push the body, and other times, you might want to hold back and know where the limits lie.

Pushing your body despite the warning signs telling you not to, can have a significant impact on your physical and emotional well-being.

With that being said, knowing what to do when your body needs a break is important.

Acknowledge and validate

Many people in life often think that by slowing down, they’re being lazy or unproductive in their efforts.

The truth is, is that not everyone can push at 100% and beyond every single time. That will only lead to burnout and potential harm to your body.

It’s therefore essential that you accept that it’s ok to slow down in life. Pushing yourself isn’t something you need to do every time, and when it comes to pushing past a certain point, it’s often counterproductive.

Acknowledge and validate those feelings. Remember that you don’t lose anything by slowing down every once and a while.

Rest

Talking of slowing down, what else is important for your health and wellbeing? Rest. Rest is something that many people don’t appreciate enough, and as such, it can often take a backseat.

From a short nap to a full night’s sleep, prioritizing rest is imperative to help repair and recover your body and mind. A good night’s sleep is something that can really be appreciated because, after all, it’s the time your body needs to recover and reset for the day ahead.

A deep sleep that’s long and uninterrupted is going to help you feel like a million dollars. Try to find time to rest your body, however that may be.

Hydrate and nourish the body

Your body needs to be hydrated and nourished. A good volume of water should be drunk every day in order to keep your body feeling and looking good. A lot of people don’t drink enough water in the day, and ideally, you want to drink around a liter or two daily.

Nourishing your body with good food is also important to ensure you’re properly hydrated and eating nutrient-dense foods, which aid any recovery you might be dealing with.

Seek medical advice

Medical advice and support might be necessary when it comes to health concerns or problems with how you manage day-to-day life. From suboxone treatment to therapy for trauma, seeking medical advice or assistance is never a sign of weakness.

If you’re struggling with your body physically or mentally, then seeing a professional might be something that benefits you greatly.

Practice self-compassion

Self-compassion is really important because negative self-talk is only going to make you unproductive in your efforts. Be kind to yourself and don’t do or say anything that you wouldn’t say to a friend or family member.

With these tips, you can avoid pushing your body to it’s limits and to the brink of burnout.
