Improving Home Security Is Way Easier Than You Think

If you think that upgrading your home security is something enormously challenging, then think again. It turns out that it’s probably much easier than you think. All you need to know is what to do. 

Fortunately, that’s where this post comes into the picture. We look at some of the ways you can improve your home’s security massively by just taking a few simple steps. 

Upgrade Your Locks

You’ll want to start by upgrading all the locks around your home. Getting this right can make a huge difference and deter opportunistic criminals who might want to take advantage of weak doors and windows. 

Ideally, you want reinforced locks on the doors with strike plates. These additional pieces of metal protect the lock itself and make it much harder to pick. 

If you can upgrade to smart locks, that’s usually even better. These don’t have external parts, so they are much harder to force and require specialist tools. 

Secure Your Perimenter

Another thing you’ll want to do is to secure your perimeter, perhaps with driveway gate installation. Making sure that it is hard to get onto your property in the first place is a pretty decent deterrent. 

The best way to do this is with high walls and security fencing. You also want cameras on the gates and to ensure that they can’t be forced open while you’re not there. 

Add A Security System

If you can add a security system to your property, that’s another great idea. These are ideal if you want to professionally monitor what happens at your home, even when you’re not there. 

Professional monitoring systems sometimes use AI or you can hire external firms to do it for you. If they notice security issues, they will immediately inform you. 

Use Smart Lighting

You can also try using smart lighting. For example, adding motion-activated lights can help you detect what’s going on all around your property and immediately illuminate anyone trying to break and enter, discouraging them from doing so. 

If you can get your lights to turn off and on randomly while you’re away from home, that’s also a good idea. With these, criminals don;t know whether anyone is in the building or not, further deterring them from entering your property. 

Secure Windows

What about secure windows? Generally, it’s a good idea to ensure that all the windows around your property have locks on them. These make it slightly harder for criminals to enter your property undetected or without noise. 

If you have reinforced glass, these locks make even more sense. They add an extra layer of safety and make it much more challenging for well-equipped criminals to get inside and start stealing. 

Visible Deterrents

Lastly, you could look into using visible deterrents, like security companies stickers and logos. A lot of criminals will see these and assume that your home is a hardened target and simply move on to somewhere else. You could also use a “beware of the dog” sticker, even if you don’t have any pets.
