If your teen is celebrating a special birthday and you have agreed to host a party for them and their friends to have some fun, then you might be worrying about what to serve up.

Teenagers are notoriously big eaters, but they are also notoriously fussy about what they do and do not consider a delicious meal, so it can be hard to know how to cater for them.

This is a collaborative post

The good news is, there are a bunch of tried and tested recipes that the average teenager will have no problem eating in huge quantities. Serve them up any of the dishes below and your only problem will be ensuring you have enough to go around.

Smoked chicken lollipops

This recipe for lollipop chicken drumsticks is perfect for a teenager’s birthday cookout because chicken drumsticks are cheap, so you can cater a lot of them, and of course, the wonderfully spicy, tangy buffalo sauce that is used for dipping is everything teenagers love; umami, garlic, spicy and comfort all in one lollipop shapes package that makes it easy to pick one up and enjoy while you’re having fun with your friends.

Pizza

It’s an obvious choice, but there is no denying that teenagers love the combination of bread, tomato sauce, and cheese that is pizza. If you want to ensure that you cook up some snacks they will love, then pizza slices are always going to be a winner.

You could even set up a pizza-making station with lots of different topping options, so they can assemble their own before cooking, to give them not only a delicious meal, but also a fun activity to enjoy as part of the party.

Avocado toast

More young people than ever are going vegan, so it is a good idea to ensure you have at least a couple of options for veggie and vegan guests to enjoy, Avocado toast, which you can make by smashing avocado with lime juice, sea salt, and chili flakes, before spreading on warm toast, is a good option as it is tasty, healthy, filling and easy to eat while enjoying the party, but you will need to cook it just before serving.

Mini burgers

Mini burgers or sliders, are perfect for teens. They are exactly the kind of simple food that teenagers love, small enough to be considered finger food, and really tasty on top. Make sure you have a mix of classic hamburgers with cheese, pickles, and tomato ketchup, and veggie burgers made from beans or lentils topped with vegan cheese, for any veggies, and use flags to ensure the kids know which is why.

Kebabs

Kebabs are also good finger food, and you can make a wide variety o them, from marinated chicken kebabs to tofu and veggie kebabs, to fruit kebabs, to keep everyone happy and ensure there is lots of variety. Basically, if you can skewer it and cook it on the grill, anything goes.

This is also another recipe idea that you can get the kids to make themselves by putting whichever ingredients they fancy onto a skewer and then tossing them on the grill. Teens can have a surprising amount of fun doing this.

Hot dogs

Hot dogs are a great option because they are quick and easy to make, and they can be personalized with different toppings., Some teens love the classic onions with ketchup and mustard while others like their hotdogs served with hot sauce and cheese, so be sure to have a wide range of topping options available and leave them to it. Oh, and you can get vegan hotdogs which are surprisingly good, so pick up a pack of them for the veggie kids too.

Cupcakes

When it comes to desserts for a teenager’s party, cupcakes always go down well because they can be eaten without cutlery, they are sweet and delicious, and you can go really overboard topping them with mars bars or M and M or Oreos, to make them more special for the occasion. Bake way more than you think they’ll need.

Sweet pizzas

Chocolate and banana sweet pizzas are also a good idea when it comes to dessert. Easy to make and very filling, the kids will have a lot of fun making their own sweet pizzas with toppings like chocolate banana, Reeces Pieces, and so on.

Serve up any of these simple party foods and your teen’s party is sure to be a big hit with even the fussiest of his or her friends.
