If you feel as though getting dinner on the table is a feat with your busy family, then you are not alone. Sometimes you may feel as though it is easier to kick everyone out of the kitchen so that you can cook in peace. That being said, if possible, you should try and invite them in so that they can help you with it instead. Cooking has many long term benefits, and some of them include your child having more confidence, better reading skills and also being better at things like math. As if that wasn’t enough, it can also help you to set a good example, so that they can benefit from a healthy lifestyle.

Creating an Interest

Cooking with your kids helps to give them an interest in the culinary arts. Kids who are involved with the general creation of their meals are far more likely to eat whatever they cook. If you have picky eaters, then this is a great way for you to try and turn this around. Cooking also helps to build math skills for your child. Almost every recipe requires you to measure accurately and to also count well. If you can, try and give your child a task, such as by asking them how many eggs end up going into a recipe for meatballs or how much oil is required when cooking brownies. This will help your children to learn addition, subtraction and sometimes even fractions. If you want to help your child, then why not use this easy cornbread jalapeno cheddar muffins recipe, and get them involved with the process?

 Improving Concentration

The great thing about cooking is that it can also help your child to rocket their comprehension skills and their reading skills too. If you can ask your child to read a recipe and if you can talk them through the step-by-step instructions that they have to follow, then this will help them to listen more and understand instructions. Try and start as easy as possible so that your kids can own as much of the process as possible. If you can do this, then you will soon find that things become easier for you.

Confidence and Self-Esteem

Cooking is also great for building confidence and self-esteem. If you give your children the chance to be involved with the general completion of a meal, then this will give them a strong sense of accomplishment. If they boiled and then mashed the potato for a meal or if they created a pizza, or even if they made a dessert, then let them know how well they did. They will be proud of their work, and they will be happy to know that they helped as well. It is vital to know that child development and the feelings of success that come with it go hand-in-hand.

If you can follow this guide, then you will soon find that your kids are happier and that they have a lot more confidence in themselves too, which is always a good thing.
