Winter Entertainment Round-Up

It's winter, which means we aren't traveling around as much as we usually do. Most of our time is spent indoors because of the weather. So it's the perfect time to check out new releases in entertainment!

Samples have been provided for promotional purposes. See my Privacy Policy for full disclosure and more.

I have been compiling this list for you all since November. Yes, November. But trust me, it's worth the wait, because there's some really good entertainment in this list that will get you through the cold, wintery weather.

This never before released soundtrack for Jim Henson's The StoryTeller contains Rachel Portman's score for each episode of the television series and its spin-off The StoryTeller: Greek MythsThis release celebrates the 30th anniversary of The StoryTeller and comes with a booklet containing exclusive interviews and behind-the-scenes photos. The 3-CD set is limited to 1,500 copies making it a great collectors gift for anyone who loved The StoryTeller series. Now, I loved the series as a child, and we even own the dvds, but rather than break this out and listen to it. I've chosen to keep it sealed for collecting. If you look this up on Amazon, you'll see why. Since it was a limited release, it seems to be selling rather high. However, if you are a huge fan and have the money to drop on Amazon or ebay, definitely do it! If the price is a little rich for your blood, I've found that there are some uploads on Youtube of the full soundtrack. Which means you can still sit by the fire with a good book and listen to these wonderful scores without having to sell off your first born or a kidney.

The Sound of Music celebrated it's 60th anniversary in 2018, and the beloved classic had gotten a live performance on television which featured Katherine Kelly, Alexander Armstrong, and Julian Ovenden. This November they finally released it on Bluray. If you missed this when it aired on NBC back in December of 2013, now if your chance to own it. There have been live remakes of A Christmas Story, Hairspray, The Rockey Horror Picture Show, and many more. If you ask me, The Sound of Music happens to be the best one of the musical remakes so far, so it's definitely worth it to pick this one up.

I am an absolute sucker for nostalgia. I loved shows like I love the (70's, 80's, 90's) that was on VH1, and I am mad obsessed with the new Netflix series The Toys That Made Us. So when I found out the people who worked on TTTMU had a new special called Discontinued on The CW, I was super ecstatic! It aired on December 16th, and if I'm being honest, I would love to see this become a regular thing. Discontinued is a funny and informative look at the world's most famous – and sometimes infamous – discontinued foods, toys, customs and businesses, hosted by Youtube star Andre Meadows. It's worth noting that this has been listed a few places as being a pilot episode, so you never know. Hopefully it gets a whole series for us nostalgia nerds.

I was seeing promos for this movie long before it was released, and really wanted to check it out. Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero is a family film based on the true story of a dog who served with the United States Army during World War I. Stubby saved his regiment from surprise mustard gas attacks, found and comforted the wounded, and once caught a German soldier by the seat of his pants, holding him there until American soldiers found him. Not only is it a cute movie, but it's part of American history. It features the voices of Logan LermanHelena Bonham Carter and Gérard Depardieu.

Goosebumps 2 is a sure fire hit with everyone in the family. Slappy the dummy is back and looking for a family. When things don't go his way, he brings Halloween to life and it's up to siblings Sarah and Sonny, and Sonny's friend Sam to stop Slappy from carrying out his evil plan. With a cast of favorites such as Wendi McLendon Covey, Chris Parnell, Ken Jeong, and Jack Black reprising his role as R.L. Stine, you will be laughing non stop. The Bluray - Dvd Combo pack is full of tons of special features that are perfect for more movie night fun after the film has ended.

Fans of Fuller House can add the complete third season to their collection on January 22nd. DJ, Kimmy, Steph and the gang are all back for another season of this Netflix hit reboot. Enjoy 18 hilarious episodes with special guest stars John Stamos, Bob Saget, Dave Coulier and Lori Loughlin.
