Degusta Box: February 2017

It's Degusta time again! This month we got a few new items, and a few repeat items. I'm not quite sure how I feel about the repeat items since we still have some of those items and now we have doubles. However, for those that have recently signed on and missed out on those, they have a chance to get them this time around.

My son was pretty excited to open this month's box. He couldn't wait until daddy and sissy came home, so I went ahead and let him dive into it. Look at how happy he is!

The first thing we got in the box was this bag of coconut chips. I absolutely love coconut and these were really delicious. I attempted to mix up a coconut, banana, orange, and pineapple smoothie with them, however, I found that they just didn't blend well, so I ended up just eating them straight out of the bag. They are great that way, but you can also sprinkle them on ice cream, brownies, cupcakes, or whatever else you like. I do wish they made the bag resealable, though. That was my only complaint.

I've always liked a lot of Jones Soda flavors through the years. Degusta had sent a Pumpkin Spice one a few months ago, however, that I was not at all thrilled with. That was surprising considering I love everything pumpkin spice. I saw they sent us the orange cream soda this time which was a relief. This particular flavor is so good! I'm not one for sweet drinks (I even drink my tea unsweetened. I'm a monster, I know), but it was good. I got a few sips out of it just to satisfy my taste buds, then passed it off to my children. Of course they loved it because it's nothing but sugar.

The Peri Peri sauce that they sent is a repeat item which we also got a few months back as well. I always use it in my jambalaya or chicken dishes because it has great bold flavor and a kick of spice. There was also a package of pre cooked fettuccine which is only 10 calories and great if you are like me and love pasta, but are trying to count calories. It really is ready in a few minutes. All you have to do is drain it, rinse it, soak in warm water for 1 minute, then drain and add your favorite sauce and meat or veggies to it. I made chicken and broccoli cajun fettuccine alfredo and it was actually quite good. I wasn't thrilled with the way it looked in the packaging because it reminded me of the packaged shredded squid I got in a former Asian food subscription box, but once I got past the look of it, it was pretty tasty.

I was excited about getting chocolate in the box. I mean, who wouldn't be?! I also happen to love dark chocolate in particular and this one by Green & Blacks has a hint of sea salt which combines well with the chocolate. The sweet and salty mesh together for a delectable treat. My son actually really liked this chocolate, which was surprising.

Another thing in the box that my son really liked were these Walkers Shortbread Butter Cookies. They had a smooth buttery flavor to them and were nice and crisp. This is another one of the things in the box that I wish came in a resealable package, but just as I did with the coconut chips, I stored them in a Ziplock bag in the pantry once opened.

Degusta has sent lozenges in 4 different boxes now, so I was a little bummed to see these again. On one hand, if you get colds a lot, they pretty much have you covered. On the other, if you are like my family and rarely get colds, you basically have a 4 year stock in lozenges now. I'm not saying you have to use these particularly when you are already sick, because Ricola lozenges have vitamins and ginseng to help also prevent you from coming down with a cold. However, the surplus of lozenges we get in these boxes a little much.

Since I'm on that healthy lifestyle flow, I like seeing things like this in the boxes. I know I don't get near enough protein during the day and that's not doing me any favors for building muscle during my workouts. I've had my share of protein bars and shakes and let's face it, they aren't the greatest tasting things in the world. Insert PrBar. We got one in chocolate peanut butter and it had a rich peanut butter taste to it that I actually liked. It was similar to the Nutrisytem bars that I had been so use to for over a year now. You still have that funky protein taste to it, obviously, but it's not so horrendous that you can't eat it. It's actually good, to be honest, which was a nice surprise.

Pop Chips are always a great snack in our house. I don't feel bad giving my children these as a snack because they are baked to a crisp, not fried. So there is never that greasiness that other chips leave behind that is also incredibly unhealthy. I'm not against giving my children a sweet or salty snack every once in a while, but I also don't care to give them snacks loaded with terrible ingredients that are unhealthy. My kids love Pop Chips and actually end up preferring them over other brands, both because of the variety of flavors that they love, but also because they aren't messy.
