BookCase.Club January YA

Few things in life make me as happy as books do. I love the smell of books, I love the way they feel in my hands, I love the adventures I go on when I open one, and I just love being surrounded by them in general. So naturally, a monthly book subscription would be the best thing ever!

BookCase.Club  is one of those things that makes me forget for a moment that I'm 32 years old and people tend to stare at you when you scream and jump for joy at the site of that blue box next to your mailbox.

I get the YA box because, well, the stories are just more appealing to me. I've always been a YA reader and probably always will be. Because BookCase.Club sends two handpicked books each month, you can easily build your home (or classroom) library pretty quickly. The only real downside is that if you are a slow reader like I am, your TBR pile becomes endless. Admittedly, I'm perfectly okay with that, because I know I will never run out of things to read.

The two books that came in this month's YA box were North of Beautiful by Justina Chen and There Was Forever by Juliana Romano.

North of Beautiful

It's hard not to notice Terra Cooper.
She's tall, blond, and has an enviable body. But with one turn of her cheek, all people notice is her unmistakably "flawed" face. Terra secretly plans to leave her stifling small town in the Northwest and escape to an East Coast college, but gets pushed off-course by her controlling father. When an unexpected collision puts Terra directly in Jacob's path, the handsome but quirky Goth boy immediately challenges her assumptions about herself and her life, and she is forced in yet another direction. With her carefully laid plans disrupted, will Terra be able to find her true path?
Written in lively, artful prose, award-winning author Justina Chen Headley has woven together a powerful novel about a fractured family, falling in love, travel, and the meaning of true beauty.

There Was Forever

Lima and Hailey have always been best friends: Lima shy and sensitive, Hailey funny and free-spirited. But Hailey abandons Lima to party with the popular kids and pursue Nate, her disinterested crush. As their friendship falters, Lima and Nate begin spending more time together. And before Lima knows what she's feeling, she and Nate do something irreversible. Something that would hurt Hailey....if she knew it happened.

Lima thinks she's saving her friendship by lying, but she's only buying time. As the secrets stack up, Lima is forced to make a choice: between her best friend forever, and the boy who wasn't meant to be hers.
