The Turtle Town series are chapter books that are geared towards more advanced readers ages 8-12 and follow a box shell turtle name Snap Shell who also appears in Melissa's Iggy the Iguana series. In The Inner Puka, the first book in the series, Snap Shell the turtle, being from Texas, must find his place in a California surf town after his father is transfered. Due to his physical differences, he faces many challenges as he tries to become the only surfing box shell turtle on the beach. 


The story is a fun read and the book does have a few pictures that are also illustrated by Kelley Ryan.
