Mistakes To Avoid When Packing To Move House

You’ve gone through the most stressful parts of buying a home, and now you have the mammoth task of moving all your belongings and your household from your old property to a new one. Planning and executing a successful move is harder than you think, and mistakes are easy to make. Here are the mistakes to avoid when packing to move house.

Leaving It Till Last Minute

Trying to purchase a new property, having a social life and going to work can be a lot to handle. However, nothing is going to make this worse by realizing you’ve booked a moving date tomorrow and you’re only just getting around to the packing now. Unless you fancy pulling an all-nighter like you may have done at college, it’s best to ensure you’ve packed up all your belongings ahead of time. Ideally, you want most of it done perhaps a few days before your moving day arrives. Anything you need on a daily basis can stay out and can just be transferred to an empty box on the morning of your move.

Create a schedule so that you have the timescale laid out and you know what’s required of you from start to finish.

Rushing To Pick A Removal Company

A removal company will likely be needed to move all your stuff from A to B unless you have the ability to drive a vehicle big enough to transfer everything. Booking a removal company isn’t something you want to rush into, yet some do and end up having a company that is poor in service and can even end up damaging items of furniture whilst it’s in transit and their responsibility. With Bekins Moving Solution, you can be safe in the knowledge that you are using a company that is reputable and will get your valuables safely from your old property to the new one.

Not Labeling Your Boxes

The effort you go to when packing up your boxes can be a mammoth one. However, it’s surprising how many of us will forget to write down on the outside after taping it up simply, what’s inside and the key contents in there. Instead, it’ll end up going to a van and being dropped off at the new place. You’ve then got dozens and dozens of boxes that aren’t labeled, and you have no clue as to what is in which box. To help yourself out at the other end, label all the boxes so that the removal company can put the boxes into the relevant rooms.

Forgetting About Insurances

Insurance helps you out, should anything go wrong in life. It’s also one thing that movers can forget to buy if they have certain items that need protecting. Look at the items that might need extra cover and in the first instance, see if your home insurance or the removal company’s insurance would cover it.

Avoid these mistakes, and you’ll have a much more seamless moving experience and one with fewer bumps along the way.

  1. We have moved from a house to another one and you weren’t kidding about moving being a mammoth & stressful job! The first time we moved, we had relatives and friends help us. It took so long and things were put everywhere and anywhere! Of course, we were grateful but the next time we moved, we used movers and they put the boxes in the rooms that was written on them. I looked at the link in your review and the movers are in Washington, DC. Good tips and advice!! Thank you for sharing!
