October 2016 WowBox

I had a chance to test out another WowBox, which if you don't know, is a monthly subscription box full of Japanese snacks and drinks. WowBox has changed a little bit from the first time I reviewed them. They updated their site, which I'm still unsure about as the layout doesn't seem very user friendly and is a bit hard to scroll through, but I'm sure given time, I'll get use to it. I'm just one of those people who doesn't take to change very well. Heck, it took me months to update my site but I digress.

WowBox is still sending out boxes filled to the brim of awesome snacks straight from Japan every month, they just stopped sending out a list of items in the box. Now, if you want to see the name and flavors of the items in your box, you have to log onto your account where they will provide you the list that they use to send out in the boxes. On one hand, this keeps the mystery of the flavors and ingredients in the items if you are one of those people that just like to taste items first and be surprised. On the other hand, if you are like me, and like to know what you are eating before you eat it, this might be a downside. Because they sent me this product directly to test, I don't have an account on the new site yet, and therefore, I do not have access to the product list. Because of that, I can't even accurately tell you what these items are or what the flavors are. However, I'm going to give you my opinion of them, which is all I can really do.

Upon first look through the box when it arrived, it looked like everything was going to be pretty good, so I got lucky, I think. I remember months back, one of the Japanese snack boxes included shredded squid in a box and ever since then, I have always dreaded opening these boxes, despite the fact that I actually LOVE Japanese snacks. I guess it's just that fear that there's going to be that one rare product that makes me gag before I even try it.

There was a juice box, which was in what I think to be a grape flavor. My daughter drank this right up. I took a sip, but it was just too sweet for my liking so I passed it off to her. My son ate the Disney Stitch candies. I'm not exactly sure what flavor these were, I couldn't accurately tell, but they weren't even shaped like Stitch. They were actually Mickey Mouse shaped hard candies. Stitch is just a character on the outside of the packaging. I still haven't quite figured out what that candy was that is in the package with the cartoon girl on, though. However, the cookies were really good! They tasted kind of like maple, but they were really good. One of the two things in the box that were my favorite, though, were the Collagen gummies! Those were delicious! They were in berry flavor and were much like gummy peach rings. From what I gather from the packaging, they are good for you, too!

The individually wrapped hard candies were different flavors and had a fizzy center. My son loved those. While my daughter had a good time with the foamy candy that she got to make herself. Sometimes WowBox sends out these DIY kits in the boxes and they are really fun. These were extremely sweet.

My second favorite thing in the box were the strawberry flavored marshmallows! They were light and fluffy and had a strawberry jelly inside. I also enjoyed the Cream filled cookies that had Hello Kitty on the package.

There was a bag of, I guess, chocolate covered popcorn, which to be honest, weren't that good and the picture of the chocolate was not appealing at all. I think the company should rethink that photo because it was pretty gross looking to the point where I didn't even want to try them. The bag of crisps were a mystery to me. I couldn't get past the smell of them when I opened them. I have no idea what flavor these were, but my husband said they had a slight barbecue or Smokey flavor to them. If I could have gotten past the smell of them, I may have tried them, but I couldn't

I guess when it comes to these kind of boxes, you win some and you lose some. It definitely is a fun experience to try out new foods from another country, though and we always enjoy it.
