Gurin Hair Straightener Review

Gurin makes a wide array of high quality health and beauty products from scales and kitchen thermometers to hair straighteners and cleansing brushes.

I got to try out the Professional Salon Model 1.25" ceramic hair flat iron. It comes packaged in this slide out box and is wrapped in bubble wrap which as you can see, I have already removed.

It some with this really nice red silky storage pouch to keep it in, although it isn't heat proof, so you will have to wait until it cools to store it. The straightener itself is black with a diamond pattern on it, which helps give you a better grip on it. I found that the straightener is a lot heavier than any one I have previously used and it takes a bit of pressure to close it, which is tiresome after a particularly long period of straightening your hair. For those of us with wavy to straight hair already, this isn't a problem as it doesn't take as long to straighten the hair. If you have super curly hair, however, it's going to take a bit longer and with the overall weight of the product and the pressure it takes to close it, your hand is going to be sore. To me, that was a huge downside.

Another thing I wasn't crazy about was the temp dial (adjustable from 240F - 450F) and on/off switch being on the inside of the flat iron. I don't know about you, but I don't want to be sticking my hand inside the iron to adjust the heat or turn it off after it's already been heated up. You run the risk of burning yourself. I've felt the amount of heat this thing (and other flat irons) give off and it's not a gentle heat. There's no real way to set this down so that it doesn't heat up and potentially burn your surface, but there is a little loop on the end of it to hang it so there's that option. It heats up fast and there is a little light on the one side that turns green when it's heated. The cord swivels to give you full usage when straightening or curling. I know what you are thinking... "Curling your hair with a flat iron?" but yes, not only can it be done, but it actually gives a better, longer lasting curl. Surprise, surprise!

Lastly, it doesn't shut off on it's own so you really have to be careful and remember to turn it off when not in use.

My few gripes aside, it's actually a REALLY good quality flat iron!
The price tag is a little steep for my liking, though. According to the Gurin Product website, MSRP comes in at $199! However, you can get it on Amazon for a fraction of the cost at $24.95 with Prime. That's a steal!
