Cosplay Mommy: Beauty and the Beast - Female Beast Cosplay

If you've been following me for a while, you know how much I love Disney. You also know my favorite Disney movie is Beauty and the Beast. I often cosplay Belle in different forms (Pin-up Provincial Belle and Steampunk Belle with yellow gown). Heck, even my husband and I's vow renewal this fall is Beauty and the Beast themed!

I've been wanting to do gender bent versions of the Disney princes for a while, but what better prince to start with than Prince Adam, right? But you don't have to spend hours throwing a great costume together. I have never been a Martha Stewart when it came to sewing, but I have a great imagination when it comes to putting a costume together with pieces I can find around the internet and in local thrift shops. All you need is a great base outfit to build upon.

My base outfit for my Female Beast cosplay is the Storybook Pirate Costume from Purecostumes.com. It's the perfect base for this particular costume. The colors are spot on and it's absolutely adorable!

Accessories for this are really simple to find or make. I paired the outfit with a pair of black knee high boots that I already owned that I purchased during a Black Friday sale at Charlotte Russe. These Black Suede Boots are great and they are flats so if you are going to be walking around a convention all day, they won't be nearly as uncomfortable as heeled boots. Although, if you prefer heeled boots, there are plenty on Amazon that you can still pair with this outfit.

I already purchased my husband an adult male Beast costume to go with my Belle and it had come with a Beast hat, jacket, and scarf. I realized that I could borrow the hat for this costume. I will say that the Beast costume is a little on the pricey side. If you can afford it, go for it! It's VERY well made and everyone loves it. However, if you are looking for something a bit cheaper, there's the option to make your own in a bit simpler manner.

I would start by purchasing a set of horns, like these Oversized Devil Horns and painting them brown. From there you can either attach them to a head band and add some ears made of felt or you can purchase something like this Brown Bear Animal Hood. For the little "mohawk" of hair that The Beast has, this Dark Brown Fur Trim can be attached down the center and styled the way you want.

There are so many option for the facial area. You can find an amazing amount of makeup ideas on Pinterest. Typically when we go to conventions, we also go shopping and out to dinner afterwards, so for me, doing a full face of makeup isn't an option otherwise I would have spent all that time doing the makeup to just wash it off a few hours later. Not to mention, I would have to wake up ridiculously early to do my makeup and make it to the convention (which is a two hours drive away) early enough to get a good parking spot before it opens. So my solution for this is a mask of some sort. I chose this Blue and Gold Masquerade Mask. Another option is this really cute Beast Mask on Etsy. Now, that one is a children's mask, but I think with a little alteration to the elastic in the back, You could probably make it work, and since there's already horns and ears on it, all you would need is a brown wig styled so the hair sticks up like fur.

Props can be a variety of things. The cheapest would probably be a long stem artificial rose, but you could also use a Funko Pop Vinyl Lumiere or a hand-held mirror. If you want to go all out, you can even make or purchase furry gloves for you hands.

And this, ladies and gents, is what my final costume looks like:

As you can see, with a little creativity, you can turn a simple costume or outfit into something completely different by adding some fun accessories!
