My Christmas Wish... #BehindTheBlogger

Christmas is usually a time of happiness and love for most people, but for some, Christmas brings a lot of sadness and loneliness.

While you are spending your holidays with loved ones, and happily enjoying each other's company while eating delicious food, there are so many people out there who spend the holidays alone. I know what it's like to be alone during the holidays, and to be sad and for my depression to hit an all time low.

When I was 19, I lived on my own. I spent a few hours with my parents on Christmas morning, but most of the night I spent at home, alone. No one called me to tell me Merry Christmas, no one came to visit, and my depression had hit me like a ton of bricks. I had no one. Even the guy I was dating at the time had better things to do than spend the holiday with me. Christmas night I sat in my quiet living room, Christmas lights aglow, big beautiful snowflakes falling outside, and I cried. Because of this, I always make it a point to make others feel not so alone during the holidays.

Something washes over me every Christmas and I feel the need to extend kindness even to those who have done me wrong in some way. Heck, a few years ago, I even messaged the woman who had been stalking, bullying, and harassing me, to wish her a Merry Christmas and tell her that I hoped her holiday was full of love and happiness. Of course, she pretty much crapped on my well wishes, but I truly meant it. I always do.

That's why My Christmas Wish is that no one, no matter the age, feel alone and sad on Christmas. You never know how much of an impact a friendly smile and simple Merry Christmas (or Happy Holidays) can have on a total stranger.
