Sunsella Bento Style Plastic Lunch Boxes

Bento, according to Wikipedia, is a single-portion takeout or home-packed meal common in Japanese cuisine. A traditional bento holds rice, fish or meat, with pickled or cooked vegetables, usually in a box-shaped container.

I've come across some really cute bento boxes and bento box creations. They definitely make lunch time more fun for kiddos and even for adults!

They come in a set of four with different color lids and are comparable, in my opinion, to Tupperware quality. They are pretty thick and strong and are easy open. I do want to point out though that they are NOT leak proof. For this reason, if you are going to package dipping sauces or anything else in it, I would go with packets or smaller seal-able containers inside the box. They are microwave, dishwasher, and freezer safe.

I'm usually a lot more creative with these boxes than this. Typically I have cut up fruits and veggies as well as pasta or cheese and crackers, that sort of thing, but on this day my kids wanted just mac and cheese and chicken nuggets. I do choose to put the dipping sauces in little muffin cups. I also like that I can make these the night before or a few days ahead and then they can just be reheated whenever the kids are ready for lunch. They clean pretty easily, but as with any plastic container, I'd be careful how long you heat it and what you heat inside it to prevent staining of the plastic. This is a big reason why I put the dipping sauces in disposable muffin cups.

We love these boxes! I've also used them to pack snacks on road trips. I put a drink box in the big portion an a couple small snacks in the two smaller portions to take with us or keep a few empty ones in the car for when you get food to go. It's easier for your child to put their burger and french fries in this container than trying to hold everything separately
