Sinful Colors Nail Polish and Nail Whitening

Last month's PINCHme box arrived yesterday and I was super excited because this was my first one. PINCHme is a sampling and review site that releases sample boxes every month. From what I can see, they have some really great sample boxes. Sinful Colors Nail Polish happens to have been in a couple of boxes lately. As a matter of fact, I have another one coming in this month's box as well.

Sinful Colors is a great nail polish for an awesome price! I usually get mine at Walmart for $1.98, however, sometimes you can even find them at Dollar Tree for $1! They have an incredible array of colors.

I was able to choose what color I wanted when I picked items for my box, so I chose Ocean Side which looked like a real light blue on the web site. However, when I received it, I was not entirely impressed with the color. I gave it a shot though thinking that maybe it would look different on my nails. Now, I have a rather light skin tone so darker colors don't look very good on me and I try to stay away from them unless I really need to use them for cosplay or holiday nail art. By itself, this nail polish is too dark for my taste. But as you can see from the photo below, I managed to use it to my advantage and made a really nice nautical theme with it.

I used a pretty good base coat before applying because I wasn't sure of how dark it would be. That being said, I only did one hand just to play around with it and after I snapped these pics, I took the polish off. To my dismay, the base coat was no help. It stained my nails in a matter of minutes.

I needed to do dishes so I figured I would see what hot water and Dawn would do for them.

I scrubbed them for a bit as my water was running and as you can see, it lightened them up a bit, but they still looked pretty bad. Usually I would use a warm water, baking soda, and hydrogen peroxide mix to whiten my nails, but I was out of baking soda. The next best thing was whitening toothpaste. I had heard of others using whitening toothpaste. I've never tried it myself, but I figured that I may as well. So I raided my freebie cupboard in the bathroom because I knew I had some Arm & Hammer toothpaste in there somewhere. Lo and behold, I found it!

I had an old toothbrush that I used to clean my nail art disks so I dug that out. I put a tiny amount of toothpaste directly onto my nails and used hot water and the tooth brush to scrub my nails. You could tell right away that it was working.

When I finished, I was rather impressed with how it worked. My nails are surprisingly healthy despite constantly wearing nail polish and I think that is in part to me soaking them in warm water and lemon juice once a week. I do the same for my toes and give myself a mani/pedi every Sunday. Unfortunately I was also out of lemon juice so I was afraid I was going to have to just deal with having blue nails for a few days. Thankfully, the toothpaste came through.

Look how clean those suckers are! They are now ready for a fresh coat of paint.
